Japan has upgraded the severity rating at the paralyzed Fukushima nuclear plant to seven, a level only ever previously assigned to the Chernobyl disaster. Officials say it's been raised, because high radiation has been recorded in the air, ocean and tap water. But Japan's nuclear safety agency is still reluctant to compare the dangers to what happened at Chernobyl, saying the radiation leak is still smaller.

Von: RussiaToday | Erstellt: 01.04.2011 |
"Japanese officials are planning to pump out contaminated water from the stricken reactors at the Fukushima nuclear plant. Authorities hope the measure will help resume efforts to restore the facility's cooling system. It's unclear when the operation will start, as radiation levels around the site are continuing to rise. The latest tests show it's now ten thousand times the legal limit in groundwater near the plant."
